No One Taught You—But You Were Still Expected to Just Know

When I got married, my husband used to joke that I was allergic to being home.
I was always out—running errands, meeting up with friends, finding something anything to do outside the house.
But deep down, it wasn’t because I loved being busy.
It was because I hated homemaking.
I didn’t know how to do it, and I felt ashamed that I didn’t.
I once read this quote:
“No one taught you how to run a home. But somehow, you’re expected to just know.”
And I felt that in my bones.

I Didn’t Know What I Didn’t Know
I didn’t grow up learning where things go, how to organize a pantry, or how to meal plan.
My home always felt chaotic, and I didn’t know how to fix it.
I didn’t enjoy being in the mess… so I avoided it.
And when I did try to “figure it out,” I felt like I was failing at something every woman was supposed to know.
But here’s the truth:
No one ever showed me.
No one ever trained me.
No one ever modeled what running a home with grace, peace, and order looked like.
We’re a Generation Without Mentors
We live in a generation that’s been sold independence, but robbed of guidance.
Titus 2 tells us older women are to teach younger women.
But many of us never had that.
Not because our mothers didn’t care—but because they didn’t receive it either.
We were all just… expected to know.
How to clean.
How to manage time.
How to love our children, our husbands, and ourselves.
How to run a home, a life, a family.

But It Can End With You
The good news?
It doesn’t have to stay that way.
You don’t have to figure it out alone.
You can find mentors—books, communities, even online sisters—who will walk with you.
You can build rhythms that make sense.
You can create a home that brings you peace.
You can heal from the shame of “not knowing.”
Because you, mama, are worthy of support.
And your home, your calling, your heart?
They’re worth building well.
You Are the Turning Point
You are the generation-breaker.
Where your family tree may not have offered you tools—you get to plant new ones.
You get to pass on wisdom to your daughters, your nieces, your neighbors.
Not from perfection—but from humility, healing, and grace.
